I brought a beach blanket I travel with and bottled water- honestly it’s all I needed I stayed downtown area in Cancun had just a bag - easy easy easy plenty of stores along the hotel strip if you’re not staying in close proximity and forgot something. There are designated areas for hotel guests however the vendors on beach for a small fee will provide chase loungers or plastic chairs - just like the $400 plus++ a night folks are spending at these hotels - there are public bathrooms/showers sometimes there are folks outside selling really anything- your call to engage or not.
